Media have the unique ability to use narrative, production elements, and casting to arouse many emotions in people, and one of the reasons people select certain media content is to manage their emotions.  If you’ve ever been truly involved in a show that was cancelled, or loved a book series that ended, you know that there are genuine feelings associated with the loss.  For example, check out people’s reactions to the ending True Blood.  We develop unique relationships with the characters in the media – both real people and fictional characters – and can feel a lot of emotions when they disappoint us or disappear.
